Firstly… what is a thalassophile?
It almost doesn’t seem like a real word, but it is, and you’d be surprised what it means.
It’s simply the love of the ocean. Anyone who loves being in or near the sea, who finds peace, thrill, and enjoyment in and around it.
If this is you, you might experience some of the following:
Constant Connection: You feel drawn to the ocean year-round, not just in summer.
Mental Calm: You experience a deep sense of tranquility and reduced stress when watching or listening to the ocean.
Active Engagement: You take part in beach cleanups, water sports, or simply spend hours by the shore.
Lifestyle: You feel a bit lost or unbalanced when you’ve been away from the coast for too long.
Relationships: You naturally connect with like-minded people, your inner circle usually enjoys the ocean too, and a lot of your time together revolves around the sea.
Basically, it’s the opposite of thalassophobia - the fear of the ocean, where even watching videos of it can make someone uncomfortable, bringing no sense of calm or joy.
You can still be a thalassophile even if you’re not completely comfortable swimming in the ocean. If sitting near it, watching it, or even seeing photos and videos of it brings you happiness, peace, and a sense of calm, then you’re part of the club.
I’d love for you to follow my journey as a photographer, where I showcase the ocean in its most beautiful and honest form. Capturing these moments gives me all the feelings the ocean brings, and through my imagery, I hope to share that same sense of peace and connection with you.
